Perform research on projects related to Corporate Sustainability, quant ESG finance, and the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and aspects related to corporate strategy, impact investing, sustainable finance, alternative data, and sustainability reporting.

[NON-TECHNICAL]
  • Analyze and map the similarities between the most important regulations in the area of corporate sustainability and ESG, including the new European Union Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), the IFRS Int'l Sustainability Standards Board (ISSB), and the UN SDGs taxonomies.
  • Develop guides for corporate and investment sustainability strategies
  • Develop a taxonomy map with keywords, paired keywords, sentences, and quantitative units associated with the top sustainability frameworks
  • Map the ecosystem of grants, crowdsourcing, and other options in the areas of AI and data-driven sustainability, and develop and implement an NGO fundraising strategy focused on ESG/SDG projects

[TECHNICAL]
  • Identify, web scrape, and clean structured and unstructured data (text-based, official sources, open source satellite data, etc) related to sustainability, biodiversity, and climate from multiple sources
  • Use supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques to expand the sustainability taxonomy, and identify relevant content from large files
  • Apply statistical, ML techniques, and Bayesian approaches to analyze inter-linkages between multiple sustainability topics based on the normalized time series
  • Implement a database and data-driven dashboards with sustainability-related data
  • Apply AI and quantitative finance models to research, develop and implement risk management signals and algorithmic investment strategies based on ESG/SDG alternative data
  • Identify, implement and test early warning signals and volatility indicators based on alternative data
  • Perform back-testing, paper trading, and financial simulations, and create a set of functions in Github with documentation and examples based on ESG/SDG signals and others from unstructured data
  • Automate code for paper trading and implement dashboards to monitor strategies and input/modify parameters

Midterm Presentations

Event Description:
Each project team will virtually present a midterm presentation that showcases the work they have done, thus far, this semester. Each presentation will last approximately 30 minutes via Zoom and School of Business faculty and staff will be invited to join. Students will present for 15-20  minutes, and respond to questions from attendees for the remainder of the time.

Midterm presentations will be held during the weeks of October 17th and October 24th. Christina Sargiss will connect with all faculty advisors and MBA Leads to schedule the days/times for these virtual presentations. Christina will also send everyone calendar invites with Zoom links for the presentations.
