Project Synopsis: Challenge/Opportunity
Standard Media Index (SMI) is one of the market's leading data and analytics companies that provides advertising, pricing, and spend data. SMI accesses actual spending from some of the world's largest media buying groups and leading independents, and then organizes that data into an easy-to-use database for clients and agency partners. Detailed ad intelligence is provided across television, OTT, digital, out-of-home, print, and radio media. This data can be segmented based on a variety of other factors, including but not limited to ad types, unit cost, and product categories. With digital media on a rapid and continuous rise, traditional media measurement systems for audience and advertising activity are facing disregard andlacking information. SMIoffersa solution to this issue through a suite of specialized products depending on what information a client needs. SMI accounts forover 90% of all agencies spend in the US.

Clients utilize SMI data in a variety of different ways, including the development of media mix models, generation of competitive benchmarks, and viewing pricing level data across markets. Other beneficial utilizations of SMI are identifying market trends at a product category level, gauging the profitability of publicly traded companies, and assessing the return on investment of sporting events.
